Description
The garden walls and gatepiers form part of a walled garden situated to the south and west of Langshaw House. The western section of the walls, closest to the A74 road, was constructed in the second half of the 18th century. These walls are built of rubble and brick and feature a pair of gatepiers constructed from rusticated ashlar, each topped with ball finials. A later phase of walling, primarily dating to 1903 (as evidenced by a date stone above a gate adjacent to the house), replaced portions of the earlier walls. This later construction is of red ashlar and incorporates crenellations. The crenellations extend over a public roadbridge, which is listed separately. The structures are designated at Category B for the quality of the earlier 18th-century work.
