Description
These are mid-18th century stables, with alterations and an adjoining dovecot dating to the early 19th century. The stables are constructed of rubble with ashlar dressings, and are whitewashed with black-painted margins, with the exception of the dovecot. They have slate roofs. The main range is in an L-shape and includes a loft space below the eaves. The long south elevation features architraved ground floor windows, with a segmental-arched coach house in the left bay and a garage opening. A shorter range runs north, featuring a 19th century apex finial and an arch projecting at its north end, spanning a driveway below. A detached three-bay block to the north has a half-blocked, segmental-arched central opening.
The dovecot is octagonal and consists of three stages. It is vaulted at ground level and features a forestair leading to a central hen-house stage, which has two tiers of nesting boxes. The upper dovecot stage, accessible only by ladder, includes nesting boxes and flight holes in some elevations. It has a faceted roof with a weathervane finial.
