Description
Bonshaw Mill is likely an 18th-century, two-storey mill with a rectangular plan, which has an early 19th-century wing added in an L-plan arrangement. The entire structure is built from rubble with ashlar dressings.
The original building features a roll-moulded cartway at the western end of the southern wall, possibly using re-used stones. The western jamb has been moved inwards to accommodate the wing. There is a single window on each level of the northern wall, and a wheel was formerly located on the eastern gable. The roof is made of stone slabs, which may have been re-used from a tower.
The wing is built against a bank and has a wide opening facing west at the upper level. It includes a segmental-arched cartway on the eastern side, which has bull-faced voussoirs, and a single window above it. The roof of the wing is covered with corrugated asbestos.
