Description

Mains of Caldons is an earlier 19th-century, two-storey, three-bay U-plan farmhouse. The entrance elevation is rendered, while the sides are finished in painted rubble. It features an eaves course, cornice, raised quoins, and painted margins around the windows.

On the southeast (entrance) elevation, there is a gabled porch at the center, with single windows at the center and at the re-entrant angle to the left. A timber door is located at the re-entrant angle to the right, with a single window aligned above it on the first floor. There are also single windows flanking both the ground and first floors.

The southwest (side) elevation has a blank gable on the outer right, and a modern extended window on the outer left, along with a timber and glass door to the right. There are single windows at both the ground and first floors at the re-entrant angle to the right, and additional single windows at both levels on the outer right of the re-entrant angle to the left, with a timber door at ground level to the left. A modern lean-to is located on the outer left.

The interior was not seen in 1999. The farmhouse features four-pane timber sash and case windows, a grey slate roof, stone skews, gablehead and ridge stacks, and polygonal cans.
