Description

Home Farm at Arniston House is a late 18th century, two-storey, three-bay farmhouse that has undergone later additions and alterations. The building is constructed of random rubble with droved dressings and features long and short quoins.

The southeast elevation is symmetrical and includes a later 19th century flat-roofed porch at the center of the ground floor, with a window above and a panelled timber door to the left side. There are single windows with relieving arches in the flanking bays, and regular fenestration on the first floor. To the outer right, there is a single-storey, two-bay addition with regular fenestration.

On the northeast elevation, a later 19th century addition projects at the ground level, featuring a boarded timber door located off-center to the left and an octagonal recess set in the gable head. The first floor is blank.

The northwest elevation is asymmetrical and consists of two bays. The gabled bay on the right has single windows located off-center to the left on both the ground and first floors, while the left bay is blank and has a 20th century flat-roofed harled addition on the first floor, with windows centered on both levels of the left return. There is also a single-storey, four-bay addition to the outer left, which includes a boarded timber door with a catslide roof that is advanced to the outer right, and windows in the center two bays, along with a boarded timber door to the outer left.

The southwest elevation is also asymmetrical and features two bays. The gabled bay is advanced to the right, with windows off-center to the left that have relieving arches on both the ground and first floors. There is a bipartite window on the ground floor of the left bay, with a single window above it. A flat-roofed porch is located at the re-entrant angle, with a panelled timber door to the left return.

The farmhouse predominantly features 12-pane timber sash and case windows, a grey slate roof with a lead ridge, and coped ashlar gablehead stacks with octagonal cans. The rainwater goods are made of cast iron. The interior was not seen in 1997.
