Description
Tinwaldshaws is a large, 2-storey farmhouse that likely dates back to 1761, as indicated by a datestone, although it features a late 19th-century porch. The house is set on a slope, with a raised basement at the south-west and north-west sides.
The building has a symmetrical design with five bays, where the outer bays are broader. It is constructed of whitewashed rubble with margins, and the central gabled porch on the south-east wall is made of stugged red ashlar. There are simple iron railings on either side of the porch above the basement area. The windows are mostly plate glass sashes, with some being blind. On the north-west wall, there are three doors at basement level. The farmhouse includes a base course, an eaves cornice, and symmetrically placed stacks, one of which has been rebuilt in brick. The roof is a piended slate design. Additionally, there is a single bay on the south-west flank and a single bay lean-to addition on the opposite flank.
