Description
30-36 Friars Vennel in Dumfries consists of two buildings that have been combined into one shop. The eastern part, which is number 36, was likely built around 1820 and features a two-storey, three-bay design. The western part, comprising numbers 30 and 32, was constructed in the mid-19th century and follows a similar architectural style.
The elevation facing Friars Vennel is made of painted droved ashlar and includes projecting cills. There is a corniced segmental-arched pediment on the right, while the rest of the cornice has been removed and replaced with a continuous modern fascia and shop windows on the ground floor. Above, there are single windows that all have modern glazing.
The westmost gable is built of yellow brick, and the eastmost gable is buttressed by a fragment of number 38, which used to be attached. The buildings have end stacks and slate roofs.
