Description

South Range at Auchendolly House is an early 19th century building that has undergone late 19th century and modern additions and alterations. It features a T-plan layout with a square infill block to the west re-entrant.

The south elevation is a two-storey, three-bay structure made of painted rubble with rusticated quoins, likely built in the early 19th century and altered in the late 19th century. On the ground floor, there are two canted bay windows connected by a timber latticework verandah. The first floor has three single light windows that break through the eaves, topped with timber gablet-headed dormers. The rear wing, also early 19th century with later alterations, is slightly lower and made of painted rubble with rusticated quoins. It has three bays and features a central pedimented Roman-Doric porch. The windows are margined, with a canted bay window on the ground floor to the right and a tripartite window on the first floor to the right. There are two gabled dormers, and all sash and case windows with small pane glazing were replaced around 1980. The building has corniced end stacks with octagonal cans, sandstone skews, and slate roofs.

The steading consists of three rubble-built ranges arranged around a courtyard. The long two-storey eastern range is built into a sloping site, providing ground level access to the first floor on the west side. The eastern elevation is largely unaltered, while the western elevation has enlarged openings, a dovecote on the south gable wall, and a blocked opening below. The northern range is a single storey with a dwelling on the right and an open wood-house on the left, supported by cast-iron columns. The southern range is a two-storey rubble barn. All ranges have slate roofs, sandstone skews, and ridges.
