Description

Kirkbride is a farmhouse built in the later 19th century, featuring two storeys and three bays, along with an adjoining cheese loft and a U-plan steading. The structure is constructed of painted rubble.

The east elevation of the farmhouse has painted brick margins and projecting cills. It includes a gabled porch at the center, with a door to the south and a window to the east, topped with a timber spike finial. The fenestration is regular.

On the south elevation, there is a window to the left at ground floor level. A single-storey wing with a broad, swept purple-slated roof is attached to the left, featuring a door on the outer left and three windows. The cheese loft is further attached to the left.

The west elevation also has a single-storey wing attached, as mentioned above.

The farmhouse mainly features 12-pane glazing in sash and case windows, with modern tiles on the roof. The stacks are made of painted rubble and brick, with gablehead stacks on the north and south and a wallhead stack to the right of center on the west.

The cheese loft has a door to the left and windows to the left of center and to the right at ground floor level on the south side, along with two small windows on the first floor. There is a lean-to attached to the west gable, which has a broad door facing south. The loft features coped skews, gablehead stacks, and grey slates.

The steading is U-shaped and located to the south of the farmhouse. It has piended roofs, primarily covered in grey slates, with corrugated roofing on the west range. There are three segmental-arched cart arches with painted brick arch rings on the east side of the west range, and a forestair leading to a loft door on the left. Additionally, there are remains of a water wheel and lade to the right of the west range, featuring a high breastshot wheel (with missing buckets) and a lade built up on a painted rubble wall. A further piended range is attached to the east of the east range.
