Description
Middle Cottage, located at the Brick and Tile Works in Terally, dates from around 1840. It consists of a row of three single-storey, three-bay cottages with a symmetrical nine-bay design, featuring three closely spaced central bays. The cottages are constructed from painted rubble and have a piended roof with overhanging eaves and exposed rafters. Each cottage has two-leaf boarded doors.
The north elevation, which is the principal elevation, features three bays at the center that are slightly advanced under a projecting gable. There is a door at the center flanked by windows, and a wheel oculus is located in the gablehead. To the left and right, there are three bays, each with a central door and flanking windows.
The east and west elevations are blank. The south elevation has a lean-to addition on the right side and a flat-roofed painted rubble and brick addition on the left side.
The cottages have 4-pane glazing in sash and case windows, with some windows partly boarded up as of 1992. There are two painted rubble ridge stacks flanking the central three bays, and brick wallhead stacks rising through the roof, with the western stack painted and only a stump remaining of the eastern stack. The roof is covered with purple slates.
