Description

The Threave Bridge is a granite bridge built in 1825, likely designed by John Rennie. It spans the River Dee and originally comprised three depressed arches with bold, polished voussoirs, the remaining masonry being bull-faced. Round-nosed cutwaters support the arch springers, and pilasters are present on the spandrels. The soffits of the arches have been concreted. In 1986, the bridge was widened to accommodate the A75 road, with the south elevation being largely reconstructed to the original design. The bridge shares a similar style and construction with Ken Bridge, although it is smaller in scale. Further details are recorded in McKerlie, volume V, page 107.
