Description
The Old Bridge of Dee is a circa 1737, four-arch bridge built of rubble stone, spanning the Water of Dee at Bridge of Dee village. The bridge features V-cutwater buttresses and semi-circular arches. The parapets are also rubble, with rebuilt squared granite coping, and contain shallow, spalyed embrasures. The bridge is 186 feet long, with each arch approximately 30 to 40 feet in width. Formerly known as Granny Ford Bridge, it was marked as such on Ainslie’s map of 1797. OS Namebooks from 1842 provide additional details.
