Description
Breconside is a 16th century three-storey tower house that has undergone later alterations, likely twice in the 19th century. These changes include enlarged windows on the south side arranged in a regular three-bay layout, and a low crow-stepped wing that adjoins the eastern gable, built in the mid-19th century. The south elevation is rendered to resemble ashlar with ashlar margins, while the remainder of the structure is exposed rubble. A full-height central semi-octagonal stair turret features a tall facetted roof, with flanking bipartite windows at the first floor and a single window above. A low porch connects the turret to the eastern wing. The building has brick end stacks and slate roofs. The ground floor is vaulted and contains two apartments, with single openings to the north and south that are likely later insertions. The gables and rear wall are mostly blank, with some blocked openings. The wing has a corniced stack over the eastern wall-head on a crow-stepped plinth.
