Description
West Lodge, Kirkwood is a gate lodge built in the mid-19th century, with later modifications made in the 19th century. It features Tudor detailing and is a single-storey structure with a T-plan layout. The building is constructed of stugged ashlar, which has a deeper red color due to later work, and has polished margins, while the rear is built from rubble.
The lodge has bipartite windows with lying-pane glazing. The west flank facing the roadside has two bays, while the side facing the drive has three bays, with an advanced gable on the left and a door located in the re-entrant angle. The skews run horizontally over skewputts, and there are stacks with octagonal flues and finialled gables. The roof is covered with slate.
The entrance is marked by corniced gatepiers that are linked by low quadrants.
