Description
The Queensberry Monument, designed by Robert Adam in 1780, is a memorial column dedicated to the 3rd Duke of Queensberry, who died in 1778. Originally commissioned by Thomas Boyd, the monument was first located in Queensberry Square but was re-erected in 1934 in front of the County Buildings, under the supervision of Alexander Crombie. The monument features a tall circular column topped with a stiff-leafed capital and a gilded flambeau urn finial. It stands on a square pedestal with a stepped base, showcasing a stucco relief on the west face, an inscription panel on the south side, and ram's heads at the corners.
