Description
North Lodge, likely dating from around 1878, is a single-story gate lodge. The exterior is constructed of snecked and bull-faced red ashlar with polished dressings. The west elevation features three bays, with a projecting and canted inner bay containing cross windows (with leaded upper lights) and a steeply pitched, faceted roof. A porch is situated in the south re-entrant angle, featuring a swept roof and pointed-arched doorway, and a single angle buttress. A cross window is found in the left-hand bay, and a transomed tripartite window is set into the south gable. The lodge has apex and wall head stacks. The bargeboards are plain, and the roof is covered in graded slates. Three chamfered, square, red ashlar gate piers, which narrow below shaped pyramidal caps with spiked cast-iron gates, mark the entrance. The lodge is likely contemporary with the dated 1878 Duncow stables.
