Description
Sunnybrae cottage, formerly known as Newlands Lodge, comprises two single-storey gabled ranges arranged in a T-shaped plan, built on a sloping site. The east range dates from 1817, and the other range is likely contemporary.
The building is constructed of painted rubble with red ashlar margins. The east range features a door and window on its east wall, a Venetian window on its south gable, and a window on its north gable with a dated lintel. A wall-head stack is positioned at the south-west corner. The west range has a three-bay south elevation, with a tripartite window (likely dating from the mid-19th century; the outer lights are narrower than the centre) flanked by single windows. A basement is located at the west end, entered through the west gable, and the roof has apex stacks. The windows are primarily sash windows with small panes. Straight skews and slate roofs complete the exterior.
