Description
These stables, dated 1872, were designed by Peddie and Kinnear and form a symmetrical U-shaped block. They are constructed from bull-faced red ashlar with polished, chamfered margins. The stables have largely been converted to domestic use. The central block is two-storey with a gabled form and features a depressed-arch cart bay, alongside a taller round tower to the left, topped with a fish-scale slate conical roof. Most of the original depressed-arch vehicle entrances have been altered into windows. Surviving windows are sash, with six panes to each. The building has corniced axial stacks and slate roofs. The stables are part of a group of buildings with Threave House and the Lodge, the latter of which is listed separately. Information about the stables has been provided by the National Trust for Scotland.
