Description
South West Lodge at Kinmount House dates from around 1900 and is a single-storey lodge featuring elaborate wrought-iron gates, piers, and railings. The lodge was renovated around 1980 and has a T-plan layout with piended swept roofs. It is constructed from snecked bull-faced red ashlar with polished dressings. The south elevation has advanced bays on the left, featuring cavetto eaves moulding, a door, and the remainder of the wall behind a timber verandah that is covered by the main roof. There are corniced end stacks, with the eastern stack set transversely and featuring a projecting breast, while the western stack rises from a two-bay wall-head gable. The windows include timber mullions and transoms, with small panes above the transoms. The roof is covered with red tiles, and there is a modern addition to the north.
The gates and railings are notable for their elaborate wrought-iron design, featuring tall gates with finialed hollow square piers and intricate carved ornamentation. The main gates are two-leaf and tall, adorned with crests, and there is a pedestrian gate leading to the lodge. The railings are set on a low red ashlar cope and curve at the north.
