Description
Cummertrees Mill is a 3-storey corn mill built in 1816 by William MacKay, Mason. It features a single storey and attic 3-bay cottage adjoining the east gable, constructed by Richard Graham in 1818. The buildings are made of whitewashed rubble with contrasting painted ashlar margins, straight skews, brick stacks, and slate roofs.
The mill has an off-centre main door on the long south wall, with boarded and glazed openings on each floor arranged asymmetrically. The west gable is finished in ashlar where the water wheel was formerly located. There is a lower 2-storey rear wing that is not original to the structure.
The cottage has a central door with a plain fanlight and is raised in height, featuring three piended dormers. It has sash windows with a 4-pane glazing pattern and wide slappings at the rear.
The farm buildings to the south and west may not be original and are asymmetrically placed on the slope, occupying both sides of the road.
