Description
This building is an 18th-century warehouse that has undergone later alterations. It consists of a terraced group of three, two-storey, three-bay houses that have been converted into warehouses, positioned along the harbour. The central and right warehouses are constructed of rubble and painted white. The original form of the three-bay house at the centre is still visible, with the bays grouped closely towards the centre, featuring a central door and a first-floor window for loading purposes. The right bay has blocked windows at the ground level and the outer bays have blocked windows on the first floor. A wide entrance has been inserted to the left at ground level.
The warehouse on the left was originally a narrower house, with a door on the outer left and windows in the centre and right bays on each floor. It has been restored to a dwelling with modern sash and case windows, while the two bays to the right remain unpainted. This warehouse is adjoined on the left by a later range of warehouses.
The warehouse to the right of centre, known as Isle Smugglers, is raised above the eaves of its neighbours to include an attic. A wide door has been inserted at the centre, with an enlarged first-floor window above and an attic window under the eaves. The original windows in the outer bays at both the ground and first floors are retained, grouped towards the centre. There is evidence of a former single-storey addition on the right return.
The building features ashlar coped skews, with grey slates retained on the warehouse to the left and a small mutual gable stack; the remaining roofs are covered with corrugated asbestos.
