Description
High Bridge of Ken is an earlier 18th century bridge, possibly of even earlier origin, located over the Water of Ken at a narrow ravine on the borders of the Dalry and Carsphairn parishes. The bridge features two semi-circular arches that are separated by a wide spandrel, with long abutments and a narrow carriageway. The northern arch spans the main flow of the river, while there is a subsidiary flood arch to the south; both arches have spans of approximately 24 feet. The squared granite springers rise from natural rocky outcrops, and the structure includes squared voussoirs, rubble spandrel, soffits, abutments, and a parapet that is topped with dressed granite coping.
