Description
Tarrasfoot Tileworks is a disused tile works from the 19th to early 20th century. The main surviving buildings include:
KILN: This is an early 20th-century vaulted Newcastle kiln, which has a rectangular shape with openings on the east and west short walls. It features a squat brick stack over a common wall and is constructed from brick with iron and steel ties and braces.
DRYING SHEDS: There are two single-storey buildings, with the larger one being a remarkably long L-shaped block and the other a rectangular plan. Both structures are timber-framed and have full-height louvred corrugated-iron panels, with roofs that are half-slated. The interiors contain timber shelving racks.
MACHINE WING: This is a piend-roofed stone-built rectangular block that is connected to the long south wall of the larger drying shed. The machinery has been removed, and the roof is fully slated.
