Description
Gilnockie Tower is a 16th century tower house that has been sympathetically restored for domestic use between 1979 and 1980, with W G Dawson as the architect. The exterior features roughly coursed rubble with ashlar dressings, and it has rectangular or slit openings, mostly roll-moulded, with some featuring relieving arches. There is a door located at the south end of the west wall and a central gun port at ground level. The tower has small-paned windows, a splayed base course, and a continuous corbel table with cable moulding that curves over the angles, along with rope-moulding raised at intervals, although some upper stonework has been removed. The gables are crow-stepped, and there is a corbelled apex beacon platform at the south end, with a corniced end stack at the north. The roof is covered with slate.
Inside, the lower level is vaulted, with prehistoric stone visible in the floor near the door. There is a circular stair located within the southwest angle.
