Description
Byreburnfoot Bridge is a road bridge designed by architect J Hogg of Carlisle in 1850, as noted on inscribed cast-iron plaques. It features a single segmental arch that rises high over Byre Burn, with an embankment on the west side of the road extending to the north and south. The bridge is constructed entirely of red ashlar, primarily with bull-nosed stones. The voussoirs are stugged and channelled, extending into the spandrels as diagonal masonry. Below the coped parapet, there is a continuous roll-moulded course, and the parapet itself is raised over plain buttresses that flank the arch. The embankment and abutments are all shallow battered, and the roadway is flat.
