Description
Hollows Mill is a farm steading dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century, with additions likely made in the second quarter of the 19th century. The steading features a tall, rectangular barn with stables and a byre, forming an L-shape that encloses a courtyard between the barn and stables to the north and west. The structure is built from rubble with ashlar dressings, and the roofs are covered with graded slates.
The barn and stables have been heightened several feet and are flanked on the north and east sides by a byre and shed addition, with the main roof sweeping over these sections. The southeast elevation has an off-centre door at both levels, with a pulley hoist at the eaves. There are tiers of slit ventilators to the right, and a three-bay stable to the left, featuring a central door at the ground level and another at the loft. The byre opens to the courtyard and includes roof ventilators, while the shed on the east side has been converted into a garage.
The remainder of the steading is simpler in design, with ranges on the west side arranged asymmetrically and stepped to follow the slope of the land.
