Description

The steading and stables at Broomholm House display three principal building phases, with the most substantial work carried out in 1844, as indicated by a datestone. The steading consists of one and two-storey buildings arranged around a rectangular courtyard. All structures are rubble-built with ashlar dressings.

The north range is predominantly two storeys and represents the earliest part of the steading, originally symmetrical in design. It was later raised in height, with door and slit ventilator openings to the courtyard. The roof timbers are secured using wooden pegs. Extensions to the west likely occurred around 1800, followed by further extensions to both east and west in 1844. The 1844 west extension features a piended, two-bay elevation with depressed-arched cart openings and a datestone below the loft windows.

The east and west ranges, also likely dating to 1844, are two storeys with square-headed door and window openings to the courtyard elevation, with a lower wing on the south side of the east range. The west range is single-storey and features a pair of square-headed cart openings at each end of the courtyard elevation.

All roofs are slated. A garden wall encloses the courtyard on the south side.
