Description
14 Bedford Place in Alloa is a building constructed in 1815 for Robert Bald, a mining engineer. The north front features a two-storey, three-window design with an Ionic column porch and a central tripartite window. The first wing and screen wall create a forecourt that is enclosed by attractive cast-iron gates and railings, with the exterior finished in harled render with margins. The south front is made of ashlar and also has a three-window layout, with the ground floor featuring channelled walls and arched tripartite windows. The central Roman Doric bowed porch is flanked by single-storey wings that have windows set in arched recesses. Inside, there is an interesting circular domed staircase adorned with a high-quality mural painting depicting a panorama of Edinburgh from the Forth, complete with steamboats.
