16 Main Street, Newhaven, Edinburgh

20 Main Street is a pair of houses built around 1970 by Ian Lindsay & Partners. The buildings are two stories high and have a symmetrical, rectangular plan with eight bays, with the left house subdivided. They are finished in harled and limewashed surfaces, featuring raised and painted surrounds around the openings. The front entrance includes two-leaf timber boarded doors, and there are exterior stairs with timber railings leading to the first floor.

On the south elevation facing Main Street, there are timber boarded doors located within a stair recess in the bays to the left and right of the center. A storage door is found to the left beneath the stairs. There are single windows on the ground floor in the bays to the left of the center, and a single window for No 18 in the outer right bay. A pend opening leads through No 16 in the outer right bay. The stairs to the first floor feature double doors that align above the ground floor doors, with flanking single windows.

The north elevation at the rear displays a variety of single and bipartite windows on both the ground and first floors. Both elevations have 2-pane aluminium windows. The roof is machine-made red pantiled, with raised skews. There is a harled ridge stack at the center and a harled gablehead stack on the west side, topped with precast concrete copes and circular cans.
