Description

Filliside House, located at 2 Seafield Street in Edinburgh, is an earlier 19th-century, two-storey, three-bay classical house. It is constructed of squared sandstone with droved ashlar dressings, featuring a base course, cornice, and blocking course on the front, along with panelled, polished ashlar pilasters.

The northwest (principal) elevation showcases an Ionic columned doorpiece with a deep frieze and cornice above the slightly advanced central bay. It has a deep-set panelled door with a plate glass fanlight, and windows are located in the flanking bays and on the first floor above.

On the southeast (rear) elevation, there is a tall, gabled single-storey projection at the centre, with a small window on the northeast return. It also features windows flanking the ground and first floors, along with a small square panel.

The northeast elevation is largely blank, with a single window on each floor located towards the outer right. The southwest elevation includes a lean-to greenhouse addition at the ground level, which is accessed externally, and a first-floor window is positioned above it at the centre.

The house has a 12-pane glazing pattern in timber sash and case windows, grey slate roofing, and coped ashlar gablehead stacks. The interior was not seen in 1998 but is reported to retain original details. The boundary walls are made of rubble with keel-shaped coping along Seafield Street, and there is rubble terracing leading to the crematorium.
