Description

2 Laverockbank Road in Edinburgh is a pair of finely detailed, early 19th century, two-storey, three-bay classical terraced houses that curve around the corner to East Trinity Road. The ground floor features channelled ashlar sandstone, while the first floor is polished. Architectural details include a base course, an architraved course at the springing line of the arches, a raised dividing course, and an eaves course with a cornice. The ground floor windows and doors are set in segmentally-arched recesses, and the first-floor windows are architraved with fluted aprons.

On the west elevation facing Laverockbank Road, the houses have regular fenestration, with timber panelled doors in panelled stone doorpieces. Each door features a small semicircular carved fan motif and a decorative fanlight in the left bay. The south elevation facing East Trinity Road has a slightly recessed left bay that curves around the corner, linking the west and south elevations, and it is also regularly fenestrated. The south elevation has three bays, with blind windows on the ground floor and in the left and centre bays on the first floor. There is a panelled ashlar wallhead stack.

The east elevation is constructed of random rubble with ashlar dressings and includes a piend-roofed outbuilding. The windows are timber sash and case with a 12-pane glazing pattern. The roofs are covered with grey slates, and the coped ashlar stacks have octagonal cans.

The boundary wall features a low, stone-coped coursed ashlar wall, with spear-headed gates and railings, as well as urn-topped gateposts at No 1.
