Cademuir, 10-10A Gordon Terrace, Edinburgh

Cademuir, located at 10-10A Gordon Terrace in Edinburgh, is a two-storey house built in 1901 by W N Thomson of Leith. This irregular-plan house features a freestyle design with classical details, constructed from squared and snecked red sandstone with polished ashlar dressings. It has a base course, a broad dividing band course, overhanging eaves, and first-floor windows that break the eaves, set in round-arched pediments. The windows are stone mullioned and transomed, arranged in bi-partite and tri-partite configurations.

The northwest elevation, which serves as the entrance, has two bays. It includes banded columns and pilasters that support an open pedimented porch leading to an advanced vestibule. A timber-panelled door is located to the right, accompanied by a keystoned window and a three-light canted window with a stylized crenellated parapet above. There is a single window on the first floor and a tripartite window at ground level in the right bay, with a bipartite window above it on the first floor.

The northeast elevation, facing the garden, also has two bays. It features a full-height four-light canted window in the outer right bay, adorned with a stylized crenellated parapet. The outer left bay has a canted three-light window with a similar parapet, while a single bipartite window with a decorative metal grille in the upper lights is located on the first floor above. There is a closed porch that is recessed to the southeast.

The southeast and southwest elevations were not seen during the last inspection in 1996. The house has two-pane timber sash and case windows, a grey-green slate piended roof, tall corniced wallhead stacks with moulded clay cans, and tripartite pilastered box dormers on the northeast and southwest sides. It also features cast-iron rainwater goods.

The interior was not seen during the last inspection in 1996. The property includes decorative wrought-iron gates with a thistle design, polished sandstone ashlar gateposts topped with scrolled ball finials, and a low coped boundary wall along the street that steps down to Ross Road. This wall rises to a higher boundary wall with a pedestrian gateway. Stone steps with barleysugar iron balusters and a decorative lamp standard lead to No 10A.
