Cademuir, 10-10A Gordon Terrace, Edinburgh

W N Thomson of Leith, 1901. 2-storey irrregular-plan freestyle house with classical details. Squared and snecked red sandstone with polished ashlar dressings. Base course; broad dividing band course; overhanging eaves; 1st floor windows breaking eaves in round-arched pediments; stone mullioned and transomed bi- and tri-partite windows.

NW (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: 2-bay. Banded columns and pilasters supporting open pedimented porch to advanced vestibule; timber-panelled door to right return; keystoned window and 3-light canted window with stylized crenellated parapet above; single window at 1st floor. Tripartite window at ground in bay to right, bipartite window to 1st floor above.

NE (GARDEN) ELEVATION: 2-bay. Full-height 4-light canted window in bay to outer right; stylized crenellated parapet. Canted 3-light window with stylized crenellated parapet in bay to outer left. Single bipartite window with decorative metal grille to upper lights at 1st floor above. Closed porch recessed to SE.

SE AND SW ELEVATIONS: not seen (1996).

2-pane timber sash and case windows. Grey-green slate piended roof; tall corniced wallhead stacks and moulded clay cans; tripartite pilastered box dormers to NE and SW; cast-iron rainwater goods.

INTERIOR: not seen (1996).

GATES, GATEPIERS AND BOUNDARY WALLS: decorative wrought-iron gates incorporating thistle design. Polished sandstone ashlar gatepost with scrolled ball finial surmounting. Low coped boundary wall to street, stepped to Ross Road, rising to high boundary wall with pedestrian gateway. Stone steps with barleysugar iron balusters and decorative lamp standard leading to No 10A.
