28 Marlborough Street, Portobello, Edinburgh

28 Marlborough Street in Portobello, Edinburgh, is a pair of classical terraced houses designed by Roderick Morrison in 1823. These two-storey buildings with a basement feature six bays and have been subdivided over time. The exterior is constructed of droved ashlar, which is painted at the basement level, with polished dressings. The northeast side elevation is made of rubble, while the southwest side elevation has lined rendering, and the rear is also rubble.

On the northwest (principal) elevation, there are eight steps leading up to the original plain cast-iron handrails and deep-set panelled doors at the center. Above these doors are rectangular fanlights and windows on the first floor, with plate glass windows at No 30. Each flanking bay has windows on both floors, while the outer right bay has blinded windows. The basement features windows for each bay.

The southeast (rear) elevation has not been seen since 1994. No 28 has 12-pane timber sash and case windows, while No 30 has plate glass timber sash and case windows. The slate roof includes dividing skews and coped gablehead stacks.

The interior has not been seen since 1994. The boundary walls are made of sandstone with coping, and there are replacement railings at No 28.
