78 Craighall Road, Edinburgh

78 Craighall Road is a large villa built around 1878, showcasing a mix of Gothic and Renaissance architectural styles, along with a high-quality interior. The building has two storeys and a three-bay front, featuring an octagonal angle bay on the southeast side with a steep facetted roof. To the right, there is a two-storey canted window set in an advanced gable topped with a ball finial. An elaborate open porch is located in the re-entrant angle, supported by columns made of Peterhead granite. The remaining bay contains bipartite windows flanked by shafts and linked vertically by a decorative panel, while the eaves are also decorated.

The south elevation facing Craighall Terrace includes a cut-down stack, with a projecting chimney breast that has flues linked between floors, creating an arched panel with a bipartite window set within it. Low ranges adjoin the flanks and rear of the villa, along with a coach house. Inside, the villa features extensive rich plasterwork on the ceilings and cornices, as well as doors adorned with elaborate leaded glass panels. At the southeast angle, there are slender octagonal gatepiers with decorative caps.
