Description
The Reception Building at Moray House College of Education, located on St John's Street in Edinburgh, was designed by Frank Wood and constructed between 1929 and 1932. This single-storey, rectangular-plan building was originally a purpose-built nursery school and now serves as a reception and archive centre. The exterior features white painted harl with a brick base course and raised cills.
The south elevation, which extends to the west elevation, includes a full-length verandah with a canopy and timber railings. It has sliding multi-pane glazed panels set in timber frames. The building predominantly has 12-pane timber sash and case windows, along with 6-pane top-hopper windows on the north and east walls. The roofs are piended and covered with grey slates.
Inside, as observed in 2007, the building has been altered, but the main rooms remain in their original layout. The interior features timber flooring and retains some original details, including low height coat peg numbers.
