Description
4, 5, 6 Greyfriars Place is a 4-storey and attic tenement building dating from 1724, with later alterations and additions. It features a 3-bay design with a nepus gable, a wallhead chimney, and shops at the ground level, which were established in 1849. The building is constructed from random rubble sandstone with ashlar dressings, and the shops have painted ashlar with a continuous fascia and blocking course.
The entrance to the flats is located at the center, featuring a narrow 3-pane fanlight above the door. To the right, there is a shop with a timber panelled door and fanlight, flanked by modern windows. The shop to the left has a door in the center, also flanked by modern windows, and a narrow bowed window to the left. The upper floors are regularly fenestrated, and there is an eaves cornice. The nepus gable has a 3-light window, with a round-arched keyblocked blind window at the center and an apex stack. The rear elevation is irregularly fenestrated and includes flat-roofed dormers in the attic.
The windows are timber sash and case with 12-pane glazing. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are stone skews. The chimney stacks are corniced with circular cans at the dormerhead and ridge.
