Description
The College Street United Presbyterian Church, designed by Patrick Wilson in 1856, is a symmetrical, two-storey, five-bay Neo-Greek building that currently serves as an academic department since 2007. The church features a central, advanced, pedimented tetrastyle Doric pilaster upper order, constructed from ashlar stone, with chamfered long and short quoins at the ground level. It has a base course and a carved band course.
On the ground floor, the central three windows have raised, moulded architraves, consoled cills, and shell-headed niches above them. The upper storey has round-arched windows, with the central windows featuring decoratively carved aprons, while the outer bays are flanked by pilasters. The pediment is adorned with actroteria.
The outer bays include deeply recessed rusticated doorways that have two-leaf, multi-panel timber entrance doors with sculptured tympana above. The first storey has decoratively-consoled balustraded balconies. There are 20th-century extensions at the rear of the building.
The ground floor predominantly has six-pane timber windows with upper hoppers, while the upper floor features an eight and ten-pane glazing pattern.
