9-11 Portsburgh Square, West Port, Edinburgh

9-11 Portsburgh Square is a four-storey deck-access housing block built in 1900 by the City Engineer's Department. It has a quadrangular plan and is situated on sloping ground to the north. The exterior features cream harling with red painted dressings, and the southwest block is made of squared and snecked bull-faced sandstone with polished dressings. The building includes concrete balconies with cast-iron railings supported by cast-iron columns.

At the corners, there are shoulder-arched open entrances leading to the stairwells. The timber boarded doors to the flats are flanked by bipartite windows. The fourth floor is distinguished by pedimented and shaped gables that break the eaves. A corbelled corner turret with a finialled, slated conical roof is located on the southwest side.

The windows feature 6-pane glazing in the upper sashes and 4-pane glazing in the lower sashes, all within timber sash and case frames. The roof is covered with grey slates, and the harled stacks have red painted cornices and circular cans.
