54, 56, 58 West Port is a late 19th-century tenement block that stands four stories tall and features five symmetrical bays, with shops located on the ground floor. At the rear, there is a three-story, five-bay wing that is harled and positioned at right angles to the main building. The exterior is constructed from squared and snecked stugged sandstone, with the rear being harled. The building has projecting cills and bipartite windows in the central bay on the first, second, and third floors. The two outer bays on the left and right have segmental dormerheads that break the eaves, while the center bay features a pedimented dormerhead.

Access to the building is through a timber panelled door leading to a close, which provides entry to an open stair. The rear of the property includes concrete access decks supported by cast-iron brackets and railings, along with timber panelled doors leading to the flats. The rear wing features a curved stone open staircase at the center, with concrete steps and cast-iron columns and handrail. The concrete access decks here also have cast-iron brackets and railings, and the timber panelled doors to the flats are topped with two-pane fanlights. The fourth floor has piend-roofed dormers, which contain a door and window on the left, a window in the center, and a window on the right.

Additionally, there are garden walls with cast-iron railings surrounding a central garden area, which is supported by retaining walls.
