Description

Circa mid 19th century. Group of 6, 4-storey, cellar and attic 6-bay stripped classical tenements turning corner to NW, 2-storey tenement with matching detailing to SE. Cream sandstone, stugged ashlar front, coursed rubble to rear and sides. Base course; band course above ground floor; cill band course; chamfered arrises to doorways.

SW ELEVATION: 4 tenements of 6 bays each; doorways to right of centre, replacement doors, 3-pane fanlights (except No 20); single windows flanking and to bays above. Corner to outer left chamfered at ground and corbelled to square above; shouldered angle wallhead stack above.

Rectangular dormers with half-piended roofs. No 8 2-storey tenement with raised basement and transverse stack to centre.

NW ELEVATION: 6-bay tenement to left, common stair doorway to right of centre, main door flat to left; single windows to bays above. 4-bays to right return elevation of corner tenement, Single windows, to right of centre blocked, to outer right built-up (except at 3rd floor). Angle wallhead stack to right (see above). Rectangular dormers with half-piended roofs.

NE (REAR) ELEVATION: single windows; 4-storey square brick projections to each tenement with doorways on flank.

Timber sash and case windows, some 12-pane, mostly plate glass glazing, some modern replacement windows. Slate piend and platform roof; angle wallhead stack (see above); broad apex gable stacks, prominent tall mutual stacks rising from wallhead. Recessed downpipes to SW elevation.

INTERIOR: stone stair to rear with plain timber handrail.
