Gatepiers to northeast of Caroline Park House, West Shore Road, Edinburgh

The gatepiers located to the northeast of Caroline Park House on West Shore Road date back to around 1690 and have undergone alterations and additions over the years. They are made of sandstone ashlar and feature classical detailing. Each gatepier has a square plan with alternating pulvinated bands and fielded panels, along with a moulded base and cornice. Attached to the inner side of each pier are lower coped walls with pedestrian entrances, likely added in the mid-18th century. The gatepiers have been modified due to the removal of the iron gates and the decorative scrolled finials. Additionally, the vehicular entrance between the walls has been bricked up. On the outer face of each pier, there are lower coped rubble walls, which are probably from the 19th century.
