Description

Cameron House, located at 7-11 Cameron House Avenue in Edinburgh, dates back to 1770, with additions made in the 19th and 20th centuries. This is a three-storey, symmetrical, classical house that has been subdivided. It features a three-bay advanced central block, two-storey, three-bay wings, and projecting single-storey pavilions. The building is constructed from pink sandstone rubble with ashlar dressings, and there are modern extensions at the rear, along with a linking block to new houses to the north.

On the entrance elevation, the central block has a doorway leading to an early 19th-century porch, which includes a panelled door and a plate glass fanlight, supported by Doric columns. Above the doorway, there are single windows on the first and second floors, and a central pediment that breaks the eaves. The outer bays on both sides also have single windows on all floors. The two-storey wings have single windows flanking the central block at ground level, with additional single windows on the first floor in both the central and outer bays, and pavilions at ground level. The projecting pavilions feature two single windows on the north and south elevations, as well as blind Venetian windows on the east.

The windows are plate glass pivot types. The central block has a grey slate piended roof, while the pavilions have pitched roofs, and the two-storey wings have later mansard roofs.
