49 Drum Street, Edinburgh

The Royal Bank of Scotland, located at 51 Drum Street in Edinburgh, was designed by Dick Peddie and Walker Todd and built in 1933. This single-storey building features a prominent Tudorbethan gable above the doorway. The exterior is made of squared and snecked rock-faced ashlar with polished ashlar margins, a base course, an eaves course, and openings that have moulded and chamfered reveals.

On the front elevation, the door is slightly to the left of centre, set in an arched opening with a bracketed and corniced doorpiece above. The gablehead breaks the eaves with a curvilinear ogee-headed gable, and the moulded ashlar skews end in obelisk finials. There is a plaque in a cartouche on the tympanum that reads "Royal Bank" in relief. To the right of the door, there is a tall, four-light window with stone mullions and small leaded panes, with lettering fixed to the fascia above. To the left, there is a large opening featuring a bowed timber three-light shopfront window that protrudes into the street, along with another window to the outer left that has small-pane glazing in the upper light and plate glass below. A deposit box is located to the outer right. The roof is covered with grey-green graded slates, and the ashlar coped skews are adorned with scroll skewputts.
