Description

George Washington Browne, 1914-15. 4-storey with ground floor mezzanine and double attic 3-bay office with restaurant at ground and basement. Polished cream sandstone ashlar. Channelled rustication at ground with corniced architraved door contained within arch. Upper floors framed by channelled pilasters. At 1st and 2nd floors giant recessed Ionic columns, with entablature and dentilled cornice; 1st floor windows with cast-iron balconies and wreaths above. 3rd floor with continuous row of 9 narrow windows. Modillioned cornice and balustraded parapet; full-width timber corniced attic behind with 4-light windows to each bay; piended roof with 3 segmental-pedimented dormers.

Metal casement windows. Grey slates; ashlar stacks.

INTERIOR: restaurant with compartmented ceiling and boxed in columns. Upper floors with suspended ceilings.
