9, 11 South St Andrew Street, Edinburgh

7 South St Andrew Street is a four-storey and attic office building designed in 1883 by Knox and Hutton, featuring a three-bay Greek Revival style reminiscent of Alexander Thomson. The exterior is constructed of polished cream sandstone ashlar and includes shops at the ground level. On the left side of the ground floor, there is a two-leaf panelled door with a tapering lugged architrave, fluted frieze, cornice, block pediment, and acroteriae. The central entrance leads to a public bar, framed by pilasters, while the right side has a corniced shopfront for No. 5, which partly occupies the neighboring building.

The upper floors are distinguished by two orders of pilasters that extend from the first floor to the eaves cornice. The first-floor features windows with a cill course, mullions, transoms, and bracketed cornices. The second-floor windows are pedimented with cast-iron mullions, and the third-floor windows are set into a pilastrade with paired piers at the center and an incised frieze. The building is topped with three arched wallhead dormers that break the cornice and parapet, which are adorned with moulded skews and acroteria, with the central dormer being bipartite.

The windows throughout are timber plate glass sash and case. The building also features moulded ashlar coped skews, a corniced end stack, and is covered with grey slates. The interior has undergone significant alterations.
