Description

8, 9, 10 Jordan Lane is a mid to later 19th century, two-storey, seven-bay flatted block built in two stages, featuring a central common stair and a basement at the rear due to the sloping ground. The building is constructed from cream sandstone with a droved ashlar front, while the rear and sides are made of squared and snecked rubble with droved dressings. Notable architectural details include a base course, a cill band course at the first floor, and corniced doorways with lugged architraves leading to panelled doors.

The north (front) elevation showcases an advanced central bay with a cornice and blocking course that breaks the eaves. It features a doorway to the common stair with a rectangular fanlight adorned with ornamental astragals, and a single window above at the first floor. Each side of the central bay has three outer bays, each with a central doorway and a single window above, along with flanking bays that have single windows on both the ground and first floors.

The south (rear) elevation is three-storey and consists of six bays. The three bays on the right are slightly advanced and include full-height canted windows in the bay to the right of centre, along with a secondary door at the ground floor. There is a later balcony with forestair at the ground floor to the left, and single windows in the remaining bays. Additionally, there are two flat-roofed dormers to the left and two canted dormers to the right, both slate-hung.

The south and west elevation features a gabled design with an apex stack and three single windows in the central bay, along with a secondary door and a small flanking window.

The building has timber sash and case windows, primarily four-pane, with twelve-lying-pane windows at the first floor above No. 8. There are replacement windows at the ground floor in the front and rear bays to the left. The roof is slate with two apex stacks, one mutual stack, and two central stacks.

Inside, the common stair features a stone stair, a cast-iron balustrade, and a timber handrail. The front is enclosed by a low rubble wall with saddleback coping, along with later gates and railings.
