Description

This early 18th century dovecot, located at Drylaw House on Groathill Road North in Edinburgh, features a two-stage, double-chambered design. The original roof sloped from north to south, but it is now missing along with the crowsteps, nesting boxes, and the upper part of the south wall. The structure is built from rubble sandstone that includes fragments of dressed stone. There is a rat course, which has undergone later repairs, or an alighting ledge above the first stage, and remnants of droved coping can be seen on the north wall. Two doorways are present on the south side, with replacement doors. Additionally, there is a fragment of a marriage lintel with inscribed figures 6, 7, and 8 positioned above the outer left doorway.
