Walled Garden, Dalmeny House, Edinburgh

The Walled Garden at Dalmeny House in Edinburgh dates from the earlier 19th century. It is a large rectangular structure built of red brick, featuring sandstone coping and ashlar dressings around the openings, with a rubble facing on the northern external wall. The main northern entrance was widened and heightened in 1978. Inside, there are timber greenhouses along the northern wall, which include a gabled entrance section at the center, topped with a timber pediment and a ball finial, and flanked by stepped lean-to wings. The base of the greenhouses is harled, while the superstructure is made of teak. The exterior angles to the southeast and southwest have diagonal slip buttresses. The northern wall extends continuously to the east and is accompanied by a variety of single-storey and two-storey lean-to brick and rubble outbuildings on the northern side, along with evidence of greenhouses on the southern side. Additionally, square flue vents for the wall heating system are present on the exterior of the northern wall.
