Gardener's Cottage, Dalmeny House, Edinburgh

Gardener's Cottage at Dalmeny House in Edinburgh is a single-storey house from the mid to late 19th century, with a raised wallhead to include an attic. The building features a symmetrical, three-bay design constructed from squared, coursed rubble, with droved and polished dressings on the principal elevation, while the sides and rear are harled. It has pendant brackets supporting a block cornice and margined windows with chamfered arrises, along with quoin strips that are chamfered at the ground level.

On the south elevation, there is a three-bay layout with a recessed and splayed door at the center, flanked by single windows. Above, in the outer bays, are piend-roofed timber dormers that are slate hung. The west elevation has single windows on both the outer right and left sides. The north elevation features a door with a window to the left, flanked by additional windows, and a boundary wall at the northwest angle. Skylights are present on the roof. The east elevation includes a single window near the center on the ground floor, with another window to the outer right above.

The cottage has a mix of modern small-pane timber windows and traditional sash and case windows, along with a graded grey slate roof that has gablehead stacks, which are coped and topped with circular cans. The cast-iron rainwater goods complement the structure.

The boundary walls are made of random rubble and are coped, connecting the house to the outhouses at the rear. The random rubble outhouses have a window at the center, flanked by doors, and a buttress on the east side.
