22 Hill Street, Edinburgh

22 Hill Street in Edinburgh is a former house built between 1788 and 1794 by James Hill. This three-storey and attic building features a three-bay classical design, constructed from droved cream ashlar sandstone with polished dressings. The front elevation, which faces north and is situated on sloping ground, has smaller windows with a cill course at the ground level and an eaves course. To the right bay, there is a broad tripartite doorpiece with an architrave, fluted frieze, and a mutule cornice, leading to a two-leaf panelled door. A small piend-roofed dormer is located to the left.

The rear elevation is made of irregular rubble and consists of two storeys and an attic with two bays. It features a projecting stair bay on the left and tripartite windows.

The windows are timber sash and case with 12 panes, while the ground floor has plate glass. The building has ashlar coped skews and stone stacks, which have been rebuilt on the east side and rendered on the west side. The roof is covered with grey slates. The interior was not seen in 1995.
